Tyre trip-up for young driver

Laura Russell

A YOUNG man from Canterbury was found driving with faulty tyres.
Nathan Dyer, 20, of Reed Avenue, pleaded not guilty to Canterbury magistrates to driving a car with insufficient tread in its tyres on May 24 this year.
Dyer had the car checked out at a garage prior to his arrest, where he had been told the tyres were above the 1.6mm legal minimum.

“I even have a letter to prove it,” he explained to magistrates. “I don’t know what instrument the garage used to check the tyre tread, but they told me my car was fit to drive.”
The case has been adjourned until next year. Magistrates have released Dyer on bail.
